Chelsea will only be without Mateo Kovacic for their huge Champions League semi-final second-leg against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, with an otherwise clean bill of health in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

The Blues host Zinedine Zidane’s side after picking up a 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital last week and following that up with a 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League.

Tuchel has an almost full compliment to choose from against Real, with only Kovacic still struggling with a thigh problem, while Antonio Rudiger will deal with a facial injury by playing with a mask on.

‘For the injuries I can just give you the status right now which is Mateo will not be in the squad, I think that Toni will play with a mask because he trained yesterday with a mask,’ Tuchel told a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

‘Everybody else trained, is in training today so hopefully we won’t have any re-injuries, any new injuries from today’s training.

‘That means that everybody is available except for Mateo Kovacic.’

It is a blow for Kovacic who will not get to face his former club, having moved from the Santiago Bernabeu to Stamford Bridge in 2018.

While a goalless draw would see Chelsea into the Champions League final on away goals, Tuchel says there is no question that his side will be going out to beat the Spanish outfit.

‘The challenge is to forget the result,’ said the German boss. ‘We will clearly prepare the match.

‘I don’t know any other way to prepare the match, to go out, to be our best. If we are at our best. It is a no-brainer to go for a win. This club is about winning.

‘I am not sure if they will play 5-3-2 again, maybe they will go 4-3-3. From this decision, things change.

‘I believe that it is not about formation, what Real Madrid play, it is about how we play. Are we brave enough? Are we courageous enough?’
