Prince Edward said his father is getting better (Picture: PA)

Prince Edward has said his father Prince Philip is ‘a lot better’, as he continues to be treated for an infection.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been in hospital since falling unwell at Windsor Castle last Tuesday.

But the Queen and the Duke’s youngest son Edward says his father is looking forward to leaving London’s King Edward VII’s Hospital. The Earl of Wessex told Sky News: ‘He is a lot better… and he is looking forward to getting out which is the most positive thing, so we keep our fingers crossed.’

Edward added that he had spoken to his father the other day, as he suggested the Duke was frustrated at being in hospital.

It comes as Buckingham Palace revealed that Philip is being treated for an infection.

In a short statement, the Palace said: ‘The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection.

‘He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.’

There are strict rules around visiting patients in hospital amid the coronavirus crisis, but Prince Charles has visited Philip in hospital.

The admission was previously described as ‘a precautionary measure’ and the Duke has been said to be in ‘good spirits’.
